Do I have a good site?

Eastern Plains Wind Energy will evaluate your site to determine if a wind generator will meet your needs. "Siting" is extremely important to the performance of the machinery. It is the difference between harnessing energy for your home and having a garden sculpture. The ideal location for a wind turbine is 20 feet above any surrounding object within a 300-ft. radius. This generally means your property should be one acre in size.

Do I have the right wind resource? Wind is the fuel for your wind generator. You should have at least 9 mph average wind speed at your location. Wind maps are available that will give you an idea of the wind resource at your home. Check out these maps and see if you have the right wind resource to begin this process. You should live in a "Class 1" or better site. If you cannot find a wind resource map for your area, there are other ways to make this determination. Contact your closest weather station, TV or radio station. Wind patterns change over short distances. Airports are not recommended as they are generally located in places with the lowest potential wind.
